Ultrasound CV is the first ultrasound series designed for Lanmage, a Shenzhen-based medical company. This project aimed to explore the potential of the VBL for future medical imaging devices while enhancing overall user experience. Design process began with extensive observation and interviews with doctors at hospitals in Shenzhen to understand their needs and pain points.
Key challenges identified included the clutter caused by messy cables, which affected staff efficiency, as well as the need for the device to be easily movable between rooms in a hospital setting. Additionally, ergonomics were a key concern, as staff often spent long hours sitting in front of the machine. The device needed to adjust to their height to reduce strain and fatigue during use, while also keeping the workspace clean and organized.
To address these needs, the design concept integrated a VBL-inspired geometric diagonal split, which reduced the overall bulk of the device and provided a more streamlined aesthetic. A unique, asymmetric cable guide bar was added to organize and hold the probe's cables, ensuring a tidy workspace. The integrated control panel was designed to function like a neat desktop, providing a clean, organized user interface.
To enhance mobility, the articulating arm system was designed with dual-scenario functionality. In the working space scenario, the arm adjusts to fit the staff’s height and posture, offering ergonomic comfort for extended use. In the mobility scenario, the arm folds and rotates, making it easy for staff to move the device from room to room without hassle. The final design ensures that the device not only improves the efficiency of medical staff but also creates a cleaner, more organized environment, ultimately elevating the quality of care provided in the hospital.
