Designed with a local-for-global approach, the Philips Lumea IPL hair removal device was first launched in China before expanding worldwide.

The key focus was on safety, ease of use, and ergonomic comfort, ensuring it met China’s NMPA medical standards while maintaining a compact, palm-sized form for effortless handling. Through experience flow analysis, we identified key pain points, particularly the discomfort of holding the device for long sessions.

This led to a redesigned architecture that enhances handheld comfort. To further refine usability, we introduced Auto and Manual Modes—Auto Mode for seamless, continuous treatment and Manual Mode for precise control. A LED color light was also implemented to indicate the active mode, making operation more intuitive and user-friendly.
